PROFILE

SHORT BIOGRAPHY

Dr M Mahbubur Rahman is currently working as a Professor in the Department of Physics at Jahangirnagar University. In 2010, Dr Rahman joined as a faculty in the Department of Physics at Jahangirnagar.

Before joining Jahangirnagar, Dr Rahman worked as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics at Khulna University of Engineering & Technology from June 2003 to April 2010. He has also served as a Scientific Officer in the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission

Professor Rahman has worked as an Honorary Research Fellow in the College of Science, Health, Engineering and Education at  Murdoch University in Australia. During that time at Murdoch, Dr Rahman jointly supervised two PhD students with Dr Z-T Jiang under the Discipline of Chemistry and Physics of the College of Science, Health, Engineering and Education.

At Jahangirnagar University, Prof Rahman has supervised 1 PhD student and 1 MPhil student. Currently, three more PhD students have been working under his supervision. 69 MSc thesis students have completed their degrees under Prof Rahman's supervision. 

Professor Rahman received his PhD degree from Murdoch University in Australia in 2016. He received a Master of Science degree from the Department of Physics & Physical Oceanography at the Memorial University of Newfoundland in Canada in 2009. Dr Rahman also completed a Master of Philosophy from the Department of Physics at Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) in 2007. Dr Rahman gained his Master of Science and Bachelor of Science (Honors) degrees in Physics from Jahangirnagar University in 1998 and 1997, respectively. 

Professor Rahman's research primarily focuses on materials science and surface analysis, with specific expertise in magnetism and magnetic materials, wet chemistry, and sputtering-based optical thin films. His work also extends to developing solar selective surfaces and advancements in computational physics. He has contributed significantly to cutting-edge innovations in material characterization and applications in renewable energy and thin-film technologies through these diverse research areas.

Over the years, Prof. Rahman has actively shared his research findings at numerous prestigious national and international conferences. His contributions have been recognized at conferences in Bangladesh, Australia, Canada, Thailand, Malaysia, and several other countries. To date, he has presented a remarkable 42 conference papers, reflecting the depth and breadth of his research.

In addition to his conference presentations, Prof. Rahman has an extensive publication record, having authored 110 peer-reviewed journal articles across a range of leading publishing platforms. His work is widely respected in the scientific community, and he consistently advances knowledge in experimental and computational materials science. A list of journal publications is given below.
